Miller & Milone, P.C., held its sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Greens, Jeans, and Beans Food Drive benefiting The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) on March 17th.  To date, staff members have donated over 1050 lbs. of food to The INN to help Long Islanders overcome the challenges of hunger and homelessness.

Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members were decked out in red on Friday, January 27th in support of the American Heart Association’s Wear Red heart-health campaign.  The Firm donated five dollars for every participant to the American Heart Association. The Wear Red campaign kicks off Miller & Milone’s 2017 Wellness Initiative which will include Spotlight on Nutrition, yoga, a Step Challenge, and more.

The Adopt-a-Grandparent event, founded by Tammy R. Lawlor, Esq., 14 years ago was created for nursing home residents who are without families or whose families are unable to visit during the holidays.  This event, which has grown from helping eight residents in 2002 to 315 residents in 2016 provides each resident with a holiday gift.  Miller & Milone employees and their families purchased and distributed holiday presents to residents of Belair Nursing Home, Bellmore; New Franklin Center for Rehab and Nursing, Flushing; Grandell Rehab and Nursing Center, Long Beach; South Shore Rehab, Freeport; Sands Point Center for Health and Rehab, Port Washington; Island Assisted Living, Hempstead; Queens Nassau Rehab and Nursing, Far Rockaway; The Arbors Assisted Living, Jericho; Park Nursing Home, Rockaway Park; and Amber Court Assisted Living, Westbury.

Winter 2016 Blood Drive

The Garden City Center Blood Drive broke its yearly donation record on December 12th when 54 pints of blood were donated, up from 41 pints last winter.  The combined total from the summer and winter blood drives resulted in a record-breaking annual total of 113 pints.

Staff members who participate in the Blood Drive are entered into a raffle to win an American Express gift card.  Long-time donor, Dotan Akiva, Director of Information Technology (pictured above on the left) was the winner for the winter drawing.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2016

As part of a yearly pledge to raise breast cancer awareness, Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members at all locations showed their support by wearing pink on October 14th. The Firm donated to the American Cancer Society to help fund research for the understanding, prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancer.

Summer 2016 Blood Drive

In the midst of an emergency blood shortage, the Garden City Center Blood Drive broke its donation record on July 11th.  Fifty-nine pints of blood were collected during the first of two annual blood drives.  Miller & Milone, P.C., employees contributed 1/3 of the total donation.

Memorial Day 2016

In honor of Memorial Day, the EEE Committee donated $200 to the Nassau County United Veterans. This organization assists veterans in securing affordable housing, training and employment opportunities, mental health assistance, and other necessary services.

The Adopt-a-Grandparent charity, founded by Tammy R. Lawlor, Esq. 13 years ago was created for nursing home residents who are without families or whose families are unable to visit during the holidays. This charity, which has grown from helping eight residents in 2002 to 250 residents in 2015, provides each resident with a holiday gift. Miller & Milone employees and their families purchased and distributed holiday presents to residents of Queens Nassau Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Sands Point Center of Port Washington, Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehab in Woodbury, Grandell Rehab and Nursing Center in Long Beach, South Shore Rehab and Nursing Center in Freeport, Belair Nursing and Rehab Center in Bellmore, Woodhaven Nursing Home, and Eastchester Rehab and Healthcare Center in the Bronx.

The gifts were distributed during festive gatherings at each facility. Girl Scout Troop 3250 of Bethpage lent their support by co-sponsoring the event at Belair Nursing and Rehab Center. New York State Trumpet Champion Noah Sheidlower brought holiday cheer to the residents by serenading them with seasonal tunes.

On Sunday, October 18th, Miller & Milone staff members, with family and friends, participated in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach.  The annual 3-mile walk raises awareness for prevention, detection, and treatments for breast cancer.

As part of a yearly pledge to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention and research, Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members at all locations showed their support by wearing pink on Friday, October 16th. The Firm contributed to a fund established to support a former staff member battling breast cancer.  Individual employees made donations to the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society provides funding for research to help understand, prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer.

On Monday, July 13th, Miller & Milone staff members participated in the Garden City Center Building Blood Drive.  This outpouring of support resulted in the collection of 46 pints (41 traditional pints and 5 ALYX pints).  Approximately 92 people benefited from the generosity of our donors.

On Monday, April 6th, the Firm participated in the “Light It Up Blue” campaign to bring awareness to autism.  Miller & Milone staff members showed their support for the cause by wearing a blue article of clothing.  The Firm made a donation on behalf of participants to Autism Speaks, an advocacy organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and a cure for autism.

Adopt-A-Grandparent is a charity event that was started 12 years ago by Miller & Milone, P.C. through the efforts of Tammy R. Lawlor, Esq., to provide gifts to nursing home residents throughout the area who are without families or whose families are unable to visit them during the holidays. Participating nursing homes provide residents’ holiday wish lists to the Firm.  Gifts are then purchased by staff member and presented during celebratory gatherings at the nursing homes.

Winter 2014 Blood Drive

On Monday, December 15th, 34 Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members participated in the Garden City Center Building Blood Drive.  This unprecedented level of support resulted in the collection of 41 traditional pints and 8 ALYX pints for a total of 49 pints.  Approximately 120 people benefited from the generosity of our donors.  Our year-to-date donation total was 106 pints.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2014

On Friday, October 24, 2014, Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members at all locations once again showed their support for the quest to cure breast cancer by wearing PINK. The Firm made a contribution to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every participating staff member.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure works to end breast cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world through ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, and programs in more than 50 countries.

Summer 2014 Blood Drive

On Monday, July 14th, twenty-two Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members participated in an on-site blood drive sponsored by Long Island Blood Services.  Overall, the building donated 43 traditional pints and 14 ALYX pints (one ALYX donation collects twice as many red blood cells as a regular whole blood donation) for a record-breaking 57 pints!

On Wednesday, April 2nd, the Firm celebrated “Light It Up Blue,” a global initiative that helps raise awareness about autism.  The majority of our staff participated in this event by wearing blue and raising funds for Autism Speaks.  Autism Speaks is the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and a cure for autism, increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

On Friday, February 7, 2014, Miller & Milone, P.C., took part in National Wear Red Day to support the American Heart Association’s mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.  The Firm committed to making a contribution for every staff member wearing red.  Similar to years prior, the Firm achieved close to 100% participation in this event!

With assistance from our co-sponsors, All-Star Gymnastics of Levittown, Island Trees Memorial Middle School of Levittown, Bethpage Brownie Troop #3250, and UTi Worldwide, residents of Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Belair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hudson Pointe at Riverdale Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Ross Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Woodhaven Center of Care, and Eastchester Rehabilitation and Health Care Center received gifts.

With support from East Coast Abstract in Garden City, Frills and Things in Bellmore, and the BOCES cosmetology students from the Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center, the Firm was able to purchase fabric and provide 280 hand-made blankets to the residents of Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Long Beach, NY.

Adopt-A-Grandparent is a holiday charity event that was started by Tammy R. Each Fall, participating nursing homes provide residents’ holiday wish lists to the Firm. The residents are then “adopted” by staff and our co-sponsors. Gifts are purchased and are given to the “grandparents” during celebratory holiday gatherings at the nursing homes.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2013

On Friday, October 18, 2013, Miller & Milone, P.C. staff members joined together by wearing “PINK” to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  With 100% participation, the event was a success!  The Firm made a contribution to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every participating staff member to support the fight to end breast cancer.

Summer 2013 Blood Drive

On July 15th, Miller & Milone, P.C., staff members participated in the Garden City Center’s most successful Blood Drive to date.  The building donated 37 traditional and 16 ALYX units for a total of 53 pints to benefit Long Island Blood Services, a division of New York Blood Center (NYBC).  From our Firm, 21 staff members participated, helping the building exceed its goal.

NYBC is one of the largest community-based, nonprofit blood collection and distribution organizations in the United States. Through the integrated efforts of their blood services operations, NYBC annually provides some one million blood components to nearly 200 hospitals throughout New York City, New Jersey, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

St. Patrick’s Day Food Drive 2013

On Friday, March 15, 2013, our staff donated close to 350 food items to The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN).  In addition, Miller & Milone, P.C., made a contribution for every food item collected to support The INN’s mission, which is to serve hungry & homeless Long Islanders with dignity, respect, and love.  The INN, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in May, is now the largest social service agency on Long Island dedicated to this cause.  Today, there are 16 soup kitchens in operation in 22 locations in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

On Friday, February 1, 2013, Miller & Milone staff members participated in the American Heart Association’s 10th Annual National Wear Red Day, which is part of a nationwide campaign urging people from all walks of life to “go red” to bring attention to the number one killer of women – heart disease. We are proud to say that the Firm achieved close to 100% participation.

Long Island Heart Walk 2012

On Sunday, September 23rd, Miller & Milone staff members, with family and friends, participated in the American Heart Association’s 2012 Long Island Heart Walk at Jones Beach.  Staff from every department took part in the 3-mile walk to promote physical activity and healthier lifestyles, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.  The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat, and defeat heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. Thank you to all our walkers and donors who joined together to support this cause.

Long Island Job Fair

Representatives from Miller & Milone, P.C., met with more than 100 job seekers at the Long Island Job Fair hosted by Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy at Nassau Community College in July 2012.  Thirty-eight local employers, including Miller & Milone, P.C., participated in the event.  The job fair provided a convenient venue for Long Island employers and job-seeking residents looking to match skills and experience with employment opportunities.

United States Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy is currently serving her 8th term representing Long Island’s 4th Congressional District, which includes west-central Nassau County. First elected in 1996, the Congresswoman has served Long Island for over 14 years.

Ms. McCarthy is Long Island’s first Congresswoman and is included in Newsday’s 100 Long Island Influentials, Long Island Business News’s Long Island Top 50, Congressional Quarterly’s 50 Most Effective Legislators, Redbook Magazine’s Mothers and Shakers, and the Ladies’ Home Journal 100 Most Important Women.
